"Derek Rocco Barnabei" Foundation

“We have lost a battle, but we will win the war
against the death penalty.”
With these words, a few hours before his execution, Derek Rocco Barnabei left us his
legacy: continue to fight to eliminate the death penalty from the face of the earth.
Abolishing death penalty and the reaffirmation of Human Rights will be the objective
of the Foundation that will be founded in Siena, Italy, with offices throughout the world.
As it is right, it will carry the name of Derek Rocco Barnabei.It will
be a point of reference for all -governments, parliaments, associations, and individuals-
that throughout the world fight to achieve a universal moratorium to stop executions.
Within the limits of possibility, the foundation will intervene also in single cases,
because it is somehow true that “he who saves a life saves the entire world.”
Everyone may join the Foundation, institutions, organizations, associations, but
above it all, the single people, starting with all the women and men that lived Derek's
events with profound participation, and did all they could to help him, and hoped until
the end that he would not be killed.
It was not so.
“But you continue to fight,” repeated Derek always, in his letters, his
interviews, during the visits in jail.
And continue we will.
Until the day in which the death penalty will be abolished in every part of the
world.
